I'm Published!

It’s official. I’m finally published! To say I’m excited is an understatement, but it’s a start. When God gave me the calling, passion, and talent to write, I thought He was nuts. Seriously. I thought, “There are much more talented writers out there, Lord. Why me?”

To me, writing has often times been equated to exercise. I groan at the thought of starting it but once I’m in the groove, I love it. Perhaps it’s because like exercise, a written work is often a work in progress. A final piece, like a finely sculpted physique takes time, effort, and perseverance. It can be a painful process but beautiful when it’s finished, like staring at a newborn baby. All the hard work seems painless and worth it.

Rejection has taken its toll on me as well. I was not prepared for my first set of critiques of my initial writings during a writer’s conference, making me gun shy for a while. At times, I've felt like a child playing dress up in mother's clothes in hopes of being asked to eat at the grown up table with the rest of the published, more established authors, wishing someday to belong. But I’ve learned a writer must have perseverance and belief in one’s self.

News of my published article titled “When God’s Timing Isn’t Perfect” in the online version of Radiant Magazine ironically came at the perfect time in my life. I have been writing a book and have been discouraged, not liking what I’ve written and lacking much needed inspiration. Today I even thought I would shelve the idea for a while until life calms down and inspiration resumes full force in my life. The thing is, life never really calms down, so this dream that God has placed on my heart hangs on its crux. God rescued His vision and me tonight. I may not have my inspiration back but I'm confident it will come. God’s encouragement through publishing an article I thought was unacceptable, forgotten even, has given me the much needed perseverance to press on.

My passion is to live a life that inspires others to be all God created them to be. I'm so excited that today, I had an opportunity to do so through my work being published. I'm blown away, in awe. I've already received feedback from readers sharing how the article has encouraged them. I can't believe this dream has come true after all these years. The view from the grown up table is quite nice! I'm blessed.

Your article on Radiant was great. I have to tell you that as a fellow writer, called by God to do something I'm often not so sure I can do, I struggle with the same doubts and fears that you do. Stick with it and trust in what God has planned for you. You have a talent that He will surely use if you let Him.
