Maui Trip Day 3: Sieze the Day

Monday, July 23, 2007

A promise of adventure filled the air this morning as a tempid breeze beaconed me to my lanai. Gently fingering my bare arms, it drew me to the rail where a rainbow lazily hung above the calm blue waters below - a sight my eyes tried to memorize and my soul consume with furvor. I am in awe that such beauty exists and has the power to captivate me so, almost making me ashamed for my wide-eyed stares and speechlessness it commands.

Today was a day of wimzy, allowing me the freedom to do what I please and go where I want, free from a schedule. I spent a good portion of the morning sitting on my lanai leizerly drinking coffee, eating pineapple, journaling, and reading up on places of interest I may venture to see later today. I decided to go for a hike to Iao (ee-ow) Valley in Central Maui. It's lush, it's green, it's perfect for an adventure. I packed myself a picnic lunch along with other essentials, got in my rental car, and headed off.

The road to Iao Valley is in the town of Wailuku. The town I found. The road I missed, but eventually found as I realized I had just passed it. The narrow, unevenly paved road led me further and further away from the worn houses of the town, leading me into lush vegetation, reminding me of the narrow, winding roads to Yosemite. The further I drove, the more I questioned if I was on the right track as I began to see fewer cars going in either direction. Just as my doubt was about to grasp a hold of the steering wheel, causing me to turn around, I saw the State Park sign leading me to the parking lot filled with parked cars, tour buses filled with day trippers, and wanderers, amazed just as I was at the lush greenness that we were walking in.
