After yesterday's adventures, I looked forward to taking it easy. I had one item on my agenda - visit Chatsworth. This mansion was used as Pemberley in the Kiera Knightly version of Pride and Prejudice. Being that the house is in Bakewell, it would only be a short bus ride. It's there I could meander through the vast grounds, explore the house, and enjoy this fine, sunny day.
After breakfast, I went to the bus stop and waited...and waited...and waited. No sign of my bus. Granted, the small roads were packed with cars since this was Easter Monday, a bank holiday in England. The bus may have been delayed so I waited some more. Nothing.
I went back to my room and looked up the bus schedules. I found another one scheduled to come shortly so I went out and waited...and waited...and waited. Nothing. The buses weren't coming. I thought about getting a cab but by this time, it was after 1pm and this show of public transportation proved to be what I was afraid would happen. I didn't want to get there an not be able to get back. I decided to let it go.
I went back to my room, grabbed my notebook, found a nice bench in a garden across the way and wrote. After all, I was in a place that inspired two great writers! What better way to spend the day in a beautiful garden with lovely weather, in a place full of history and character!
I wrote until my hands began to go numb due to the sun fading behind the clouds. I was a bit disappointed I didn't get to see Chatsworth but often times good plans are not always the best plans. I was satisfied in knowing I already saw the Pemberley of my heart yesterday thankful for the much needed rest day.
On a completely different note, I discovered I have a tower warmer/ radiator in my hotel bathroom. I found this dries my clothes in about half the time! It's the little things in life that make a difference.
Tomorrow I go to Edinburgh, Scotland. I can't believe I'm in Europe and have finished my duration in England. It's been an amazing experience far surpassing my expectations and full of adventures that grew me in such a short amount of time.
For now, I must say farewell to England and prepare myself for a new leg of this journey.
